Keep Your Eyes on the Road

We’re more than halfway through the year and not a lot has happened.

I say that in a slightly tongue-in-cheek, very understating the truth kind of way. The point is, unless you’re intentional with your actions, life will simply happen to you. Busyness will get in the way of all those targets you had for the year, those aspirations you had for your career, the dreams you had for your life.

The “I can’t believe it’s already July (or August or September…)” conversation is a true reflection of that. It’s so often a reflection of you finding yourself doing the same old, same old, without any engagement with your needs. It’s like you’re doing everything for everyone else (your employer, your family, your community, your country), without doing anything for yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with doing stuff for others. The world needs more of that. But if you’re only reacting to others’ circumstances rather than being proactive with your own goals, you’ll find yourself stuck in the “this year has flown by” type of conversation.

So take this opportunity to take a firm hold of your career. Look at where you have gone so far this year and what direction you want to go towards. Are you looking for a side hustle?

And act. Thinking is great, but we’re addicted to it. Planning and scheduling and strategizing and pontificating…They all have a role. But the energy used being stuck in your brain can be put to better use physically pushing ahead with your own agenda. Just do it. Jump onto Fiverr if you must.

Keep your eyes on the road and make the most of the rest of the year.
